Violins and the Farmers Market??

Every now and then, something catches my eye, and I can't quite let go it go. Similar to my dairy cow, 'Gal', who caught my eye a couple of summers ago, I saw this violin shop at the indoor farmers market last year and I knew I had to take some photos. My initial thought was that if I got the right shot, it would make a fabulous card, or framed 5x7. Well, today, Jimmy and I ventured over there, because I needed some Gardeners Hand Cream from Earth Essence Herbals, and it was a perfect day to take some shots of the gorgeous violins in Dennis McCarten's shop. He not only makes violins, but repairs them as well. They hang beautifully, different woods and grains, different sizes, each one with it's own story. I wish I had had more time to speak with Dennis, but he had customers. I'll go back, probably with some cards in tow and continue my conversation with the very kind Dennis McCarten.

Columbine Angel

Columbine is the state flower of Colorado. It is a beautiful, delicate, complicated flower. It looks like the most heavenly of angels with is wings spread. I have a Columbine perennial in my front yard, where this photo was taken with light from the late afternoon sun. The beauty of the Columbine flower has helped to heal some of my personal memories of the tragedy at Columbine High School in Colorado, which we will acknowledge on April 20th, 11 years later.Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Another Opening of Another Show..

Yesterday was the 'virgin voyage' for the Craftopia creators. It was a good day. The event was well organized, the organizers were very thoughtful, the space was airy. I did 'okay'. I think that, as has been said by many a vendor, doing shows is unpredictable. I also think, however, the economy had alot to do with all the compliments, all the lookers, but not too much cash being doled out. It was the first show of the year, maybe not close enough to Mother's Day. Who knows. There is always a learning curve. I was happy to see some friends come out and enjoy the venue. My husband, as always, was and is invaluable with his support of my art, but also with the down and dirty task of lugging of tables, and crates. I could not do all of this without him. Thank you Jimmy, you are so appreciated.Thank you again, Ladies of Craftopia. May this be the first of many shows for you. A job well done!
As a postscript, I must add, that many vendors did very well on Sunday!!!!

Final Thoughts on the Flood

The sun is out, it was a gorgeous day. I knew that the waters had receded alot, even though the levels are still above flood stage. I went back down to the Village to take a look/see. I saw that many of the docks had been washed away from the Cove. I saw less of a crowd. In fact, there was no crowd at all, except for this one woman. I couldn't help but notice her, as she stood alone looking over the Bridge at the water, which had just done so much damage. I couldn't help but think, that she was thinking about her parents, grandparents, and great great-grandparents. She just witnessed something which possibly none of them was party to. You could feel her thinking about them. So, I stood back, not wanting to disturb her, and snapped this photo.I was glad to see some swans on-land, but I have been wondering about their nests and the signets which are soon to follow. How were thy effected, if at all. Did they sense the danger which was coming, and move the eggs to safety. Time will tell.
No, this was not Haiti, this was not New Orleans, but my local supermarket is still underwater, and FEMA has heard from over 5,000 families so far. The clean-up is just getting started, but we will be talking about the flood of 2010 for many years to come.
A Happy Easter and final nights of Passover!
