It happens every spring. I catch of whiff and I know I have just been blessed. The life of the fragrant honeysuckle lasts but only a short time. I wish that I could bottle the sweet aroma of the honeysuckle and keep it close by. Some of the flowers produce an edible nectar.
There is a wild vine which grows by the Stillhouse Cove. I plan to bring some cut vines home, root them, and grow them in my yard.
This, my friends, is a slice of heaven.

Honeysuckle is amazing. I like Jasmine too. And lilacs. They all smell so good. You're not going to regret planting them closer to you!
So lovely ... reminds me of my younger days when we would pluck the blooms and suck the sweetness from them. :)
Beautiful...I love all the smells of spring/summer...enjoy!
Cheers
I was just introduced to the honeysuckle recently. I knew it's heavenly scent but I'd no idea it was edible 'til someone pointed out and showed me how to taste them at a bbq. Love the photos!
Steve, I soooo look forward to having them here...I'm going to the Cove today to cut some back, and prayerfully, they will root in water...:))
Walk in the Woods..so lovely is a perfect, simple description of the honeysuckle...and what a lovely memory!!!

Ahhh, honeysuckle is one of my favorite smells. It grows wild on the trail that I walk. I know what you mean about wanting to bottle the sweet scent.
I was thrilled to see this post. Honeysuckle makes me happy. There is a particular segment of my morning run where I have been blessed with this heavenly fragrance over the past couple of weeks. It brings with it memories of pure joy from my days as a child. Fills me with gratitude every time.
Looks like a slice of heaven and smells like one too I'm sure! Lovely photos :)
Angela, now wouldn't THAT be something to really get the sweet honeysuckle fragrance in a bottle..sounds like a lovely walk you have!!!
Johnnie, so many seem to have such excellent childhood memories from the scent of the honeysuckle...the sense of 'smell' can bring back such strong memories...your gratitude is a blessing!!
Michelle, one day you will know about the sweet fragrance from the honeysuckle, I'm sure!!
My grandparents had an edible honeysuckle in their backyard. I still remember when my cousin showed me how to pluck the flowers and suck on the ends to taste the sweetness. What was it about that and chewing on blades of grass that felt slightly illicit?!
I think it's kind of a sensuous thing Jennie, to be sucking on the sweet nectar of the honeysuckle...your innocence is touching...great memory...:))
