Gifts in November...

Yesterday it was 64 degrees at the shore in Rhode Island...my husband and I we thrilled to visit our friend, Miss Ocean and enjoy the warmth of the sun, the loud crashing waves, the high tide, the cloudless skies and the long walk which we so love during the summer months...I even came home with some excellent rocks.

We have also seen a colorful autumn, albeit, somewhat late, because of the brutally hot summer we just experienced.
The bottom 4 photos are from the Stillhouse and Pawtuxet Coves, respectively. New England 'charming', at it's best!!

The Sweet Honeysuckle

It happens every spring. I catch of whiff and I know I have just been blessed. The life of the fragrant honeysuckle lasts but only a short time. I wish that I could bottle the sweet aroma of the honeysuckle and keep it close by. Some of the flowers produce an edible nectar.
There is a wild vine which grows by the Stillhouse Cove. I plan to bring some cut vines home, root them, and grow them in my yard.
This, my friends, is a slice of heaven.

The Raging Pawtuxet River

Let me start this post by telling you that we are fine. We do not live on the river or in a flood zone. That being said, Pawtuxet Village, where we bank, frequent our local watering hole, have my cards for sale in some of the quaint shops, is watching, and hearing this landmark river RAGE! This is the end of the River which empties into the Stillhouse Cove (the photos), which empties into the bay, which empties in to ocean. The flood levels are normally 9 feet and by tomorrow morning the Pawtuxet River is getting ready to crest at 20 feet! The sound alone is deafening. I'm not sure if these photos capture how deadly this current is right now. I will go back again tomorrow to take some more shots! Everyone on the East Coast, be careful out there!

Post script: Sam Champion from Good Morning America was on ABC World News w/ Diane Sawyer, reporting on the floods from Cranston, RI...emergency news conference going on as we speak!

Ahhh, Signs of Spring....

Seeing the terrible damage the nor'easter caused this past week in the Northeast, I think that we are all very grateful for this stretch of stunning weather. The bonus is that Spring is very much in the air, even if it's a temporary reprieve, we'll take it. I went for a walk by the water yesterday, and took these couple of shots of the same stretch of the Pawtuxet River by the bridge. You can see the water is still furiously rushing into the Stillhouse Cove, however, it is clear that the current has become less fierce. The top photo is looking back into the Cove, where you can see the water becomes quiet. There were also some signs of Spring, little though they may be, are a real standout. I also found some great weeds, which caught my eye.

Fare Thee Well...I Hope!

It is March. I am so glad it is March. Tonight we turn the clocks ahead 1 hour, giving us that glorious extra measure of light at the end of the day, which continues to increase by minutes upon minutes as the sun becomes higher in our soon to be, Spring sky. There is so much hope attached to this upcoming season of Spring, especially this year. It has been a tough Winter for our country. Just that very hope of Spring and ALL it has to offer, makes my heart sing, as I am already making plans for my garden, thankful that last years haul is still blessing our table! On that note, I took these photos this past Thursday, down at the Stillhouse Cove, of the mounds of snow, which have since seen some serious melting. I know, it IS possible that's it is not quite over yet, but, hope, hope, hope, Springs eternal!
